JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates?
Todd: There were some ethnic problems.
Misunderstandings were rampant.
JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Todd: I always had a choice, to step aside or stare
down inmates I had problems with.
JM: Were you able to choose an inmate if you knew one?
Todd: Yes. Ethnic groups tended to stay with their own
kind. People did mix, but there were clearly
divisions.
